The new South Health Campus construction began in mid-August and the cranes and other equipment for conducting excavation work were onsite in early September and are proceeding with their work. I will continue to provide you with updates as the construction progresses.
Most of the work on the new health centre will take place from Monday to Saturday between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. although some work will run later into the evening as necessary. All construction workers will be advised of potential community concerns and how to deal with them during the initial orientation process.
Trevcon the developer repairing the Douglasdale entrance feature has made adjustments to the pathway and erected construction fencing and they are now well into working towards the completion of the project.
During the summer, I had the opportunity to meet with Charles Boechler from Remington Development Corp to discuss the construction of the new Quarry Park development in our constituency. The development will include a hotel, large park spaces and retail and residential developments. If you have any questions regarding this development you can contact Charles at 255-7003.
The Government of Alberta has approved a grant through the Community Facility Enhancement Grant program to help fund the playground project at the St. Albert the Great School. The organizing committee for the playground is to be commended on their hard work on this project. This first of its kind playground for child and adult residents with disabilities is a credit to the spirit of community mindedness of the citizens of Calgary Hays.
My constituency office manager Donna Elms and I will be participating in the Thanksgiving Memory Walk and Run being held at Eau Claire Market on October 7th. This annual event is held to help raise money and awareness for the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada. Please come out and help us support this worthy cause.
The changes created by the Alberta government’s training benefits program which took place September 1st are helping thousands of full-time students receiving income support money earn more money while they are attending training programs. The changes will increase accessibility to full-time and part-time training by increasing the amount of money students have available to help them meet their expenses. For more information on this program please contact my office.
As a result of its annual insurance rate review the Automobile Insurance Rate Board has decided to hold premiums for mandatory auto insurance in Alberta at 2006 levels.
The production of clean, renewable energy will receive a major boost over the next four years. The provincial government’s $209 million Bio-Energy Producer Credit Program will help encourage further investment in the province’s emerging bio-energy industry through financial incentives for producers while advancing new markets for agricultural and forestry products.
The Government of Alberta has announced that it will invest 350 million dollars in public buildings over the next two years. Eighty-seven million of that will go to Alberta Health and Wellness. The rest will go towards the various other ministries.
