Hays MLA Art Johnston's
Report To Constituents
April 2007 (There was no article in April 2008)
There will be a Towne Hall meeting on Thursday April 12th from 7pm to 9pm at 40 McKenzie Towne Blvd. SE. Please come out and join us and to learn about and ask questions regarding future plans for our area and for the provincial government. Please RSVP your attendance by contacting Donna at the constituency office.
Major construction projects are planned by the Alberta Government during the spring and summer of 2007 which will severely impact and limit public access to the east end of Fish Creek Provincial Park. During critical stages of construction, there will be partial and full closures of areas of Fish Creek Provincial Park to address public safety concerns. Sikome Lake swimming facility will not be operated this summer. This closure will also affect Hull’s Wood day-use area, Bow Bottom Trail and associated pathways. Access to the Bow River boat Launch will be maintained from Sun Valley Boulevard SE. The projects include:
- Excavation and installations of sewage lines connecting the existing Fish Creek Treatment Plant to the new Pine Creek Treatment Plant.
- Twinning of the bridge on Highway 22X over the Bow River
- Removal of storm water outfalls on the banks of the Bow River and construction of associated wetlands
- Paving and upgrading of the Fish Creek Provincial Park boat launch and associated pathways
Calgary Hays constituents are invited to an Open House being held by the Friends of Fish Creek Park to join them Sunday, April 29th from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at the Bow Valley Ranch Visitor Centre. Interactive activities and interpretive walks are planned throughout the event.
Several constituents have contacted me wondering when the line markings on Deerfoot Trail over the Ivor Strong Bridge will be repainted. I have been informed that this is a priority and that the repainting will take place weather permitting within the next few weeks.
Subject to provincial approval construction on Phase I of the South Health Campus should begin later this year. Overall funding for the project is still being discussed and alternative funding strategies will be considered if requested by the government.
The Calgary Health Region has implemented an electronic health record (e_record) system that links the three adult acute care hospitals in Calgary, improving the quality, safety and efficiency of care. This is a major milestone in the development of a comprehensive electronic health record system that will connect the public and health care providers to secure e_records by 2010.
I was pleased to represent the Government of Alberta at the opening ceremonies for the Alberta Wheelchair Curling Championships in early March. Four teams competed for the Alberta Championship with players from Calgary and Edmonton. I’d like to congratulate the winning team and wish them luck in representing our province at the Canadian Championships in Ottawa this month.
I’d like to thank everyone who attended the Safe Community Neighborhood meeting held on February 16th. I was pleased to note the interest in the purpose and nature of the Bill that I am working on and hope to introduce to the Legislature for passage later this year. More information on the Bill will be forthcoming.
I was pleased to represent the Government of Alberta at the opening of the Special Olympics Alberta Winter Games held at the Max Bell Centre in February. It was a real treat to be a spectator at the various events and the games overall were a great success.
Finally, I’d like to wish everyone a Happy Easter.
